It’s never a good idea to be hanging around during those times. Staying in the house is totally fine. The same goes for pets. All pets should be taken elsewhere or left inside if they are able to handle the noise coming from above.

In many cases they have no idea who installed the roof, or maybe the Illinois roofing contractor they hired is now out of business. There is no way to tell what lurks under the shingles sometimes. When someone is called to fix a leak, that person is assuming all the liability and will continue to get calls if the leak persists. Instead, we like to provide an estimate for total or partial replacement. That’s because we can guarantee our work and stand by it.

A new roof increases the value of your home, we know that for sure. There are other benefits that may not be as readily apparent.

For instance, the roofing materials today are far superior to the roofing materials twenty years ago. Asphalt shingles have come a very long way. Roofs are measured in squares. A roofing square is a 10’ by 10’ area. Our crews have been known to knock out a 30sq roof in a day. That includes tearing off the old roof, picking up all the debris and placing it in the dumpster, and then installing the new roof. It’s not because they rush through it. Instead, it’s because each crew has enough men to get the job done efficiently and effectively. They know what they are doing and they are focused. So instead of roof replacement being a huge inconvenience for a couple of weeks, our crews typically condense that to a maximum of 48 hours on a regular sized shingled roof.

Roof Tear-Offs

Sutton’s does not offer lay-over roofing services. There are a couple of reasons why.

One, when we lay new shingles over the old, we have no idea what condition the deck is in. We don’t know what the underlayment or flashing looks like. We don’t know if there are spots where leaks have formed and instead of addressing the roof leak at the source, we are laying a new shingle over the top. The other reason is that a second layer of shingles is really heavy. That is a lot of extra weight for the framing of our house to hold. So in the event of a storm or a tree branch falling, the framing is already under twice the amount of pressure because of the extra weight. Proper ventilation can be an issue as well. That is why we made the decision a long time ago to tear the roof off down to the sheathing. Then inspect the sheathing to make sure it’s worthy of a new roofing system. Then proceeding with the installation. That way, we can guarantee the whole thing.
